Basic Bowling Tips

Are you a beginner who wants to learn the basics of bowling? Assuming that you know the rules and the basic terminology, here are some tips for beginners and kids.Bowling, a sport enjoyed by many, is popular in most parts of the USA. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, the more you play, the more you enjoy it. Here, we give you some tips and techniques which would help you to improve your game.

Tips for Beginners
As a beginner in bowling, you should concentrate not only on physical preparation, but also mental preparation. Both these aspects are necessary to master the game.

First and foremost, you need to be perfect with the straight ball, and try to be consistent with it. The straight ball may be difficult for some, but it gets easy with practice. If you can hook or curve the ball already, it is even better. A natural curve is of great advantage, so try to attempt it a lot. If you master this, you will be scoring spares sooner, compared to the other beginners.

The next important aspect is your delivery, and the number of steps you take in the approach. For this, you need to find out the best step approach suited for you. A four-step approach is usually recommended for beginners. It is best to find a delivery which is most comfortable. Make sure to adjust the delivery as per your overall height and stride length.

The release is an important aspect of your shot. It all depends on your release as to the position where the ball would end up. Remember that you should release the ball only when your arm has passed your left foot (if you are a right-handed person). By releasing the ball in such a way, you can aim for the target pins better. Also, don’t forget to follow-through after the release. It is crucial for better accuracy and ball speed.

Tips for Kids
Kids must wear comfortable bowling shoes and clothes. They should not wear tight clothes, as it will hamper their movement. Comfortable clothes ensure complete range of motion and flexibility required for a good game. The next important thing is to find a ball which suits the child’s style, ability, weight, strength, and skill. Kids should be encouraged to rehearse bowling motions with different balls of variable sizes and weights, and then settle for the best fit. If the finger holds are too loose or too tight, they may pose a problem. The holes should be a snug fit, but not so tight that the ball doesn’t leave during the release! Even though heavy balls are recommended, initially, they should use balls that are light in weight, as they are easier to handle. At a later stage, you can introduce heavier balls, once the kids develop their strength and skills.

It is recommended that you take your kids to the bowling alley when there aren’t too many players, so that he can watch skilled bowlers perform, and take his time to learn the sport.

Kids should be taught to aim and focus on the arrows on the bowling lane, and not on the bowling pins. By aiming towards the arrows, the aim would be that much more accurate, as compared to aiming directly at the bowling pins. They can aim for the specific pins in time, as they get skillful.

Basketball Tips and Tricks

Basketball is arguably one of the most fast-paced and physically demanding sports. Here are a few tips and tricks related to basketball. It was the last few minutes of the game. Our team needed to score – desperately. One basket and we would get the two points we needed to win. Our team regained the possession on the rebound, our center playing to perfection, not letting our opponents get the ball after they had scored. Our team had to transition quickly from defense to offense. The center, while still up in the air, turns her head toward the sideline of the court where I am waiting, without any defender marking me, screaming for a pass. Before she hits the ground, she passes the ball to me and I am off, dribbling the ball like mad.

I had the target in my sight and range, the basket into which I must shoot, my opponents swarmed all around me, my team took up strategic positions. Then a thought came inside my head – should I pass, or should I shoot? There was no time to think. Time was ticking away, and the referee already had the whistle in her mouth. And then time seems to slow down as if in a dream sequence of a movie.

I can hear my coach’s voice in my ears, as I perform the action as if I am sleepwalking. When shooting, concentrate. Really focus your eyes on that hoop. It’s not the general area of the basket, but that single point on the hoop – that is your target. My knees were bent in a slight crouch, and like a well coiled spring being released, I let my body straighten up, while at the same time my elbows straighten up with the ball held with the fingertips of my hands, and at the right moment, I let go of the ball, and saw it sailing over the rim, and into the basket, even as the referee’s whistle blew in a shrill – Phrrreeeeeeee! And my whole team rushed toward me – we won!

Some Trivia

This fast, adrenaline pumping sport is said to be the second fastest game in the world, after ice-hockey. The game is played between two teams consisting of five players each, whose motive is to get the ball into the opponent’s basket, elevated ten feet off the ground.

A gentleman named Dr James Naismith, who had previously been the Athletic Director of McGill University in Montreal, had moved to the YMCA Training School, located in Springfield, Massachusetts. Since the winters were bitterly cold, Dr Naismith wanted to devise an activity that could be played indoors, which would help in developing skill, while not relying exclusively on strength. A soccer ball and two peach baskets as goals were used in the first basketball game ever played.

From those rudimentary beginnings, to the action-packed sport that it has become today, basketball has grown and evolved with numerous modifications and changes made to it over the years. Changes like the style of playing, the rules, the court markings, the equipment, and so on. Here are a few basketball tips and tricks that you will find interesting:

Shooting Tips

  • Your team scores by shooting the ball into the basket, of course. This is one of the most thrilling aspects of the game.
  • When about to shoot, it is important to be relaxed, while remaining focused on the basket. When attempting bank shots and lay-ups, the player should concentrate on the backboard.
  • When shooting the ball, players should learn to be completely balanced. Proper all-round balance of the body is critical when lining up a shot.
  • It is important to develop the skill to sense the right time to take a shot. Players must not shoot too often. With enough practice, players will develop the ability to discern when it is the right time to shoot and when not.
  • When using the jump shot, the jump should be natural and not forced. After jumping straight up, the ball should be released right at the crest of their elevation. A simple way to remember this is: “Up – Hover – Shoot.”
  • The follow through after each shot players take at the basket is also very important. Each time they shoot, players should practice an appropriate follow through.

Passing Tips

Without a doubt, passing is one of the most vital aspects of the game. Efficient ball passing is crucial for the team to advance the ball effectively.

Here are some of the dos of ball passing:

  • Do opt for easy passes.
  • Do pass to the player who is unmarked.
  • Do make fake movements before actually passing the ball.
  • Instead of the bounce pass, do make use of the air pass on a fast break.
  • In order to generate better lanes for passing, do dribble.
  • Do make use of the bounce pass in order to feed the ball to the post.
  • With every pass you make, do make sure to follow through.
  • When passing, do see that you do it away from the defense marking you.
  • Do use both hands to pass. Single-handed passes are far more difficult to receive.

And here are some don’ts:

  • Don’t throw in the general direction of a teammate’s voice.
  • When making a pass, don’t jump up in the air.
  • Don’t make a pass to a heavily marked teammate.
  • Don’t pass the ball from the center of the court, choose a side and pass from there.

Dribbling Tips

Arguably, dribbling the basketball is one of the skills that players enjoy the most. There is just something magical about manipulating the basketball with your hands! Here are a few key aspects of dribbling that players must remember always.

  • While dribbling the ball, it is important to stay low.
  • Keeping the head up while dribbling is also important.
  • While dribbling and advancing with the ball, instead of avoiding the defender, attack him/her.
  • Purposeful dribbling is the most effective – hence avoid pointless movements.
  • While dribbling, it is important to learn to use the body and the other hand to protect the ball.
  • All players have one hand that is strong. In order to be an ambidextrous dribbler, the weaker hand must
  • be strengthened by constant practice.
  • The best way to keep the defender off-balanced is to learn to change the pace of dribbling, sometimes speeding it up and at other times slowing it down.
  • Another tactic of keeping the defender off-balanced is to learn to change direction abruptly while dribbling.
  • Once the player succeeds in beating the defender, he/she must learn how to keep the defender behind you.
  • Dribbling mechanics and techniques can be improved by constant practice.

Wrestling Tips and Strategies

It is not only about muscles, but also about brains and smart strategies, when it comes to one the most popular sports in the world – wrestling. For some effective wrestling tips and strategies, keep reading. It is not surprising that wrestling has become one of the most popular sports in the world that attracts millions of fans and merges successful merchandise and televised events. One of the major powerhouses of professional wrestling is the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and it has attracted ‘loads’ of fans over the years and the number is still increasing. This sport is a form of an ancient martial art, wherein, wrestlers followed techniques such as clinch fighting, throws, and takedowns, joint locks, pins, and several other grappling methods. Although the bout is more physical by nature, it also requires some ‘play smart strategies’ to gain an upper hand on one’s opponent and maintain a superior position. This game centers around the wrestlers being equipped with gymnastic moves, extensively trained, mentally smart, and physically strong and well-built.

Tips On Wrestling

  • One of the most important strategies of wrestling is not to be apprehensive about the outcome of the match, but to focus on staying cool, calm, and in full control of yourself. Do not let any reactions from your fans, referees, or opponent distract you; employ an offensive philosophy going in and use proper attacks at the right time.
  • Be continuous in your attacks or more precisely, be a chain wrestler. Employ a strategy to lay a second attack if the first one does not work, and keep your opponent off balance by laying the first attack and continue to stay in the flow.
  • You are in the match to win and so is your opponent. So, never let this thought weigh you down, about how your opponent might feel or what if he gets badly hurt? As a person, you may have these and similar kinds of soft feelings, however, your opponent might not. He may have all the aggressiveness that is needed to win a match. So, your main strategy should be to keep all feelings and emotions out of the ring, and be as aggressive and brutal as a tiger!
  • You should believe that you are stronger than your opponent, and use it to overpower him and take control of the match. On the other hand, if your opponent seems stronger than you, then it would not be wise to waste your energy in fighting his strength. In such cases, concentrate on techniques and quick moves. As already mentioned, play smart and use your agility to your benefit.
  • Once out of the range of your opponent, try to relax your nerves and collect yourself. When you are back in range, ensure that you keep a proper body position and stay balanced. Stumbling even an inch, may present an opportunity to your opponent to take control of the match.
  • Do not waste your energy in maneuvering holds which are not open and always avoid keeping ear to ear positions. Instead, keep your forehead on his forehead and never let your opponent sense your fatigue.
  • Attacking is better than just defending yourself. As soon as the whistle blows or immediately after assuming the top position, lay your attacks and do not leave room for your opponent to react. Take him by surprise; this will allow you to fetch maximum points in the match.
  • Keeping a good control on your temper, but maintaining an even level of aggressiveness, are the two most beneficial strategies you should apply while wrestling. Most wrestlers just cannot keep their temper in check and when it erupts, they always tend to commit some nasty mistakes, which causes them to lose control and eventually the match. So, keep your temper and ego at bay, and instead, make your opponent lose his own and put his ‘wrong foot forward!’

There is always more to such techniques and tips. Better than just knowing about them in ‘black and white’, it is best to seek advice from a professional trainer to know about the in-and-out of this sport. No matter how many and how deep the aspects are of this sport, the most important of all is to keep the match and the fight only to the ropes of the ring and not to let them brim outside and into your personal life. A perfect sportsman is one who keeps his professional life and personal life on the ‘two opposite banks of a river’. Winning, of course, is every wrestler’s prime objective. However, what’s more important is to enjoy the spirit of the game and be a valuable part of it.

Jet Ski Safety Tips

The following jet ski safety tips will make sure that all water sport lovers would be safe while riding this powerful watercraft. Learn what are the different safety tips people need to follow while riding a Jet Ski.Most people who love adventure and thrill in life are big fans of water sports. There are various water sports which people love, but nothing beats the excitement of riding the super fast Jet Ski. Riding a Jet Ski is one of the most amazing things that a person can do on water, but if not handled properly this fast ride is enough to cause serious injuries. Jet Ski is actually a brand name given to a personal watercraft (PWC) which is manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Japan. Though many people call it an easy and fun machine to handle, people who have ridden Jet Skis before know the power of the machine and never advise beginners to drive it at high speeds without safety gear.

Precautions to consider while Riding a Jet Ski

It’s almost summer and most people would head out to the shores for some fun and water games. There are high chances that people would also go and give Jet Skis a try. It doesn’t matter if the rider is doing this for the first time or has done it before, Jet Skis shouldn’t be ridden if the rider doesn’t know all the necessary safety norms.

Wear the Necessary Safety Equipment
All riders must wear a proper fitted US Coast Guard approved flotation device. Drivers should also attach the engine stop lanyard to their wrist at all times. Why? If some uncanny circumstances occur and the rider falls off the Jet Ski, the engine will automatically shut off when the lanyard is pulled from the kill switch. It’s also advised to have a fire extinguisher on board in case engine suffers problems and a fire occurs.

Keep Your Eyes Open
It’s a good idea to stay alert at all times when you are riding a Jet Ski. Drivers should be very careful about other ships and boats. 95% of Jet Ski collisions happen when the rider is taking a very sharp turn at high speed. Be very careful on holidays and weekends as traffic on sea is the highest on these days. Also make sure the rider is not under the influence of alcohol and or drugs while driving a Jet Ski.

Take a Course
People who have no experience in handling a PWC or a Jet Ski should first take a crash course in riding such machines. There are many courses which are available and people do undertake them so that they can ride a Jet Ski like a professional and avoid any crashes.

Keep Distance
It’s advised that Jet Ski riders maintain a distance of at least 70 feet from other PWCs in the water. Remember coming close to another boat or Jet Ski can be reckless and will certainly cause collisions.

Age Limit
No one under the age of 18 should be allowed to drive a Jet Ski alone. Manufactures recommend the age limit to be 16 but not all state laws agree with this recommendation. In most states, individuals younger than 18 are prohibited from riding a Jet Ski alone. However, they can ride a Jet Ski with a professional seated behind.

Ride in Daylight
Riding a Jet Ski before sunrise or after sunset is strictly prohibited. Why? Because there’s not enough sunlight and these machines don’t have their own navigation lights. So when the sun goes down, riders are requested switch off their machines and return to the shore.

Driving a Jet Ski is fun, but it’s also necessary to first learn the machine like a professional and then perform all the exciting stunts. Also don’t go Jet Skiing without knowing the rules and regulations of the US Coast Guard in the respective state.
